Audrey Hepburn Makeup Tutorial - Putting on Lipstick linerYou guys asked for it and you guys got it! Get ready for some incredible Audrey Hepburn makeup tutorials. I have collected some of the BEST videos on the web for you and broken down their steps and products used.

Italian Makeup Artist Alberto Rossi was responsible for developing Audrey Hepburn’s signature look. Audrey had extremely high regards for Rossi, calling him “sympatico” which is Italian for lovely. When he died, Rossi’s Son reported that Audrey was in shambles saying that it feels like she lost a brother and she rather not work again.

Audrey’s son would watch Rossi put makeup on her. and to get an idea of how painstaking her makeup was, Rossi would apply 3 coats of mascara on to create a layer effect and delicately separate each lash with a PIN! With a Pin! Imagine the amount of time spent.

Wally Westmore was another one of her favorite makeup artists.  He was responsible for her makeup in Roman Holiday (Her first big debut film) and her most popular film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In Breakfast at Tiffany’s, she was rumored to have worn this Revlon lipstick.

Enough chit chat, let’s get to our Audrey Hepburn makeup tutorials!

Get ready for the top 5 most glamorous Audrey Hepburn Dresses.  Now…everyone has their vices! Be it wine, dating, or a movie with popcorn, there is always that one thing that you can’t resist when it comes to spending time and money. As you can imagine, it becomes more complicated when you’re a celebrity! Graced with more money and less time, finding your vice through the daily hubbub can be a frustrating challenge. After all, everyone needs to cut loose every once in a while, especially after a hard day’s work!

Audrey was once quoted saying this on the set of Sabrina:

“Clothes are positively a passion with me…l love them to the point where it is practically a vice.”

While every facet of her style was fashionable, the area where Audrey Hepburn truly shined was in her choice of dresses. It is safe to say that a new dress was Audrey’s true vice! She adored wearing the newest trends and certainly made a point to set a few herself. Nearly every movie Hepburn starred in has an iconic dress to go with it.

Please let me know if you don’t think these are the top 5 Audrey Hepburn dresses and comment with your favorite dress and reasons to back it up! 🙂

Here are some of the most glamorous:

My Fair Lady Dress – Ascot Riding Outfit

The ostentatious black and white ensemble sported by Eliza Doolittle at the Royal Ascot Races is one of the most unique costumes ever worn by Miss Hepburn onscreen. Renowned English costume designer Cecil Beaton made this extraordinary piece for the actress, who is usually known for his classically cut, timeless silhouettes.  Beaton was known for designing in Gigi as well, and is up there with the best of them as a curator of stylish and original designs for film and stage superstars like Audrey.

This exquisite ensemble features layers upon layers of lace ruffles, full sleeves, a mermaid silhouette, black and white striped ribbons, and a larger-than-life-hat topped with flowers. Based on looks alone, no one in the film could’ve guessed that Hepburn’s character wasn’t a born-and-bred member of high society while wearing this outfit.

The actress Debbie Reynolds, of “Singin’ In the Rain” fame, paid 100,000 to own the outfit, which sold for 3.7 million dollars at an auction of her private collection on June 19th, 2011.

This is arguably one of the most famous garments ever designed for a movie, and one of Beaton’s most acclaimed works. His designs for My Fair Lady earned him the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 1964.

Unfortunately, if you want to buy this dress you’ll need to get it designed from scratch.  Nicole Kidman had designer L’Wren Scott make a dress inspired by this one, and you can safely assume it cost her a small fortune!  In terms of cost, this rivals the Breakfast at Tiffanys dress and makes the My Fair Lady Dress one of the most expensive Audrey Hepburn Dresses!

Red Audrey Hepburn Dresses from Funny Face

The movie in itself is a testament to fashion and all things couture, and it shows in every beautiful ensemble that Hepburn models in the film. One of the most stunning pieces she wears is this stunning red silk dress and organza shawl, one of the many designed for the actress in her career-long partnership with Hubert de Givenchy.

The story behind this and other dresses in Funny Face is interesting enough: Hubert de Givenchy was vouched for by Audrey following Edith Head’s Oscar for the designs in Sabrina, which Givenchy also contributed to but never saw the same credit for.  Audrey passionately and fervently defended his prowess and when Funny Face began production she reached out to Givenchy for the most prominent designs.

She wears this piece in the modeling montage where she poses, open armed in front of the Winged Victory of Samothrace at the Louvre. As she floats down the stairs surprising her co-star, a photographer played by Fred Astaire, she has finally come into her own as a model, despite her humble beginnings as a bookstore clerk.

Unfortunately, this too doesn’t exist in the market for dress-lovers.  Your best bet would be to design one yourself, or maybe, drop Givenchy a line!  This is one of tne of the boldest colored Audrey Hepburn dresses of the bunch that I’ve seen her wear… or am I wrong and missing a dress?

Black Sabrina Dress

Audrey Hepburn Black Sabrina Dress

For her second major film with Paramount, Audrey sported this unique film-fashion staple, another Givenchy number. It helped to cement her place as one of the true pioneers of every woman’s closet essential: the little black dress.

This cocktail dress features a full skirt that fans out from the slimly tapered waistline and hits just below the knee.  The back features a v-cut, and small dainty bows adorning the straps. However, the most memorable aspect of this dress is the unique horizontal, high neckline that perfectly flattered Hepburn’s long neck, flat chest, and broad shoulders.  Givenchy finished it with the classic black gloves and pumps, and a cute little black hat that almost made it onto our list of the Top 5 Iconic Audrey Hepburn Hats.

Audrey’s looks in that film further proved that she was a stalwart fashion icon in Hollywood.  In fact, according to an interview with Givenchy published in Vanity Fair magazine in 1995, the designer says that the actress’s debut in his clothing was so pivotal that “what used to be called a décolleté bateau, afterward it was called the décolleté Sabrina.”

I Need this Dress… Where Can I Buy one?

Luckily, this dress has been recreated time and time again for Audrey fashion fans. You can find it here at the best price, and here and here for more of a custom / handmade effect.

The black Sabrina Dress is one of my favorite Audrey Hepburn Dresses because of the old, vintage 1950’s look.  I think it’s a very classy look, with the spin out making it both cute and fun.

White Sabrina Dress with Black Embroidery

The jaw-dropping, strapless, white satin ball gown with black and gold embroidery worn for Audrey’s role in Sabrina also came courtesy of her partnership with Hubert de Givenchy. This organdy gown also has a detachable court train, lined with black ruffles and showcases beautiful floral embroidery, complete with delicate beadwork throughout.

According to Vanity Fair, Dreda Mele, who was both the owner of the Paris Armani boutique and a previous borrower of this dress sample, reminisced about the first time she saw Audrey in the dress, saying “She was something unreal—a fairy tale!” The characters in Sabrina obviously shared this sentiment, as she turned heads as the undisputed belle of the ball for arriving at the Larabee soiree in this regal piece.

Where Can I Get One?!

I HAVE FOUND this very close representation of this dress at a very good price! It’s not exact, but will give you the same design effect.

It really is stunning, and no, you probably won’t find the EXACT one anywhere for yourself…but you can find it for your favorite Barbie doll!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dress – Little Black Dress

The Breakfast at Tiffany’s black satin sheath dress is hands down the epitome of Audrey Hepburn’s individual brand of glamour. When you imagine the actress, this is the dress that you think of her wearing.

This piece, also masterminded by Givenchy, has become her trademark. Some sources say that the original dress designs were edited by costume designer Edith Head because too much leg was exposed. Regardless, the sleek, polished silhouette of this gown is particularly remarkable, especially on Hepburn’s slender and delicate figure. The half-moon shape of the neckline of the back of this dress gives the perfect frame for the oversized pearls she draped around her neck to accessorize.

The character in the dress was the one-and-only Holly Golightly, now the timeless characterization of feminine allure and strength.  Without the dress, her impact on audiences across the world, then as well as today, would surely have been different.

The Dress can be seen in this scene below:

So… Where can I Find This Dress?!

According to Christie’s, the London retailer that auctioned off the dress, the actual dress designed for Hepburn was sold for $923,187 in 2006 to an anonymous telephone bidder. There are a ton of different options out there and spin offs.  However, the best one that I’ve found (out of the hundreds that I’ve searched through) that CLOSELY resembles the fit and style is found here at this affordable price.

What were YOUR Favorite Audrey Hepburn Dresses?

You have a better dress for the list?? Do you think there should be a dress added to this list? Roman Holiday? Maybe Love in the Afternoon?  Let me knooooow!

In this article, I’ve written all about Audrey Hepburn Anorexia, if you still have questions I didn’t answer, write me a comment below.

Let’s get started.

As most of you know, Audrey Hepburn was an iconic actress and style icon, who was known for her simple, practice sense of style and her thin, svelte look. While she was not as skinny as some of the other actresses who were popular in the 60’s and beyond, some people have still questioned whether she was naturally thin or if her size was due to anorexia.

[ RELATED: See our Complete Audrey Hepburn Fashion Guide ]

[ RELATED: See our Amazing Facts on Audrey Hepburn! ]

One of the biggest sources for the rumor that Audrey Hepburn suffered from anorexia and possibly even depression is her youngest son, Luca Dotti’s, Audrey at Home: Memories of My Mother’s Kitchen (excellent book with personal insights). In this book, he states that for much of her life she was very underweight, weighing only 88lbs. He also said that she had very strange eating habits, that were part of her disorder.

Look at my article on Audrey Hepburn measurements to find out her waist and bra size!

Audrey was actually a very chunky baby with roly-poly thighs and very fat cheeks.

Audrey Hepburn Anorexia - chunky baby

When she was a toddler, she loved Belgium chocolate so much that her mother had to tell the kitchen aides to hide all of the chocolate so that her daughter couldn’t gorge herself!

Audrey said “Chocolate was my one true love as a child”

“It wouldn’t betray me. I’ve always said it was either chocolate or my nails in those years. There was a lot of anxiety.”

So having survived near starvation during World War II, food became a luxury. She would simply stop eating meals during periods of stress and anxiety.

An interesting fact in this Audrey Hepburn Anorexia article is that the field of epigenetics provides Audrey a reason for her long lifetime malnutrition and weight issues. The principle of epigenetics is that you come into contact with a heavy enough stimulus over a period of time (such as starvation) and then it has the ability to change, warp, damage, and evolve your DNA structure.

Many people who survive starvation, have very permanent problems that persist into normal life. Audrey suffered permanent damage from malnutrition.  She later suffered from other things like jaundice, acute anemia, and asthma.

Diana Maychick wrote a controversial biography on Audrey Hepburn titled Audrey Hepburn: An Intimate Portrait. Her two sons Sean and Luca and her partner Mr. Wolders were outraged about the book claiming that Diana has  twisted the truth pertaining to Audrey Hepburn’s father, Joseph, being an active Nazi sympathizer during the second world war, claims that Audrey cooperated with her, and also claims about her being anorexic.

Wolders, Audrey’s last partner before she died, totally dismisses the claim about Audrey being anorexic by saying that it is “absolute bullshit, she had a good metabolism.”

Even Audrey’s second ex-husband Dotti a psychoanalyst who specializes in these types of eating disorders agrees with Wolder by saying she always maintained a “healthy but disciplined diet, based on her youthful training as a ballet dancer.” – Source People Magazine 1994

Up until Luca Dotti’s book was released most people thought her slender figure was due to her intense ballet training. Ballet dancers are usually slim and slender, and often have boyish figures. It was not unbelievable that this was a natural result of the training and exercise that Audrey Hepburn went through in order to become a dancer.

Like many celebrities of her day and age, Hepburn took great care to hide as much of her private life as possible from the prying eyes of the public, so it is not unbelievable that she would have been able to keep such a devastating secret. This is in stark contrast to the celebrities of today, who use Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites to give fans as much insight into their lives as possible.

According to Diana Maychick, Audrey Hepburn was not naturally thin and was actually a chubby little girl. This is a fact that some people point to when they attempt to prove that Hepburn struggled with anorexia later in life. While many people do have metabolic changes later in life, it is rare that a chubby person becomes skinnier as they get older. The natural tendency is for skinny people to become fatter, as their metabolism slows down as they get older.

As said above, as a child, Audrey was known for her love of chocolate. She was said to have loved Belgium chocolate so much that her mother had the kitchen staff hide her favorite treat. Audrey herself was even known to have said that chocolate was her one and only true love. It is hard to believe that a child who loved chocolate so much would grow up to be naturally thin.

As several people, including her son, have pointed out, at the very least Audrey Hepburn had a strange relationship with food. While there is little concrete evidence that she was anorexic, she certainly had some known strange behaviors when it came to what and when she ate.

Not only was Audrey Hepburn a child of the depression, but she lived through Nazi Germany’s occupation of Holland during World War II. It was during these periods of starvation and periods of scarcity that Audrey Hepburn’s anorexia and strange relationship with food is said to have begun. During the occupation by the Nazi soldiers, Hepburn had little access to food. She reportedly survived what is called the Winter of Hunger by eating endive and tulip bulbs that she dug up herself. She would constantly distract herself from her hunger by writing in her journal. Whether or not she was truly anorexic, her ability to not eat very much for long periods of time began during this long winter of 1944, when she was a teenager. Her family and she were so hungry that they would try to make bread out of grass clippings subside the painful attacks from her stomach acid trying to digest itself. she was painfully thin.

Photo Courtesy of Emma Fakes It

According to Diana Maychick, Audrey used food as a way of coping with stress. But unlike many people who tend to overeat as a coping mechanism, Audrey Hepburn actively avoided eating when dealing with stress. This type of behavior is a classical symptom of anorexia and is one of the reasons why many people believe that she struggled with anorexia during her lifetime. Audrey Hepburn also said that she associated food with happiness and was reluctant to eat when she was feeling sad because she feared that she would eat and absorb the sadness.

Despite all of the evidence there are still people who believe that Audrey Hepburn was in fact naturally thin and did not suffer from an eating disorder. Much of the accounts and evidence that she was anorexic are based on the stories that Luca Dotti told in his book. He was a young child during much of the period that he describes in his book, and he may have exaggerated memories of her eating habits.

If you’re wondering more details how she ate and exercised, visit my post on The Audrey Hepburn Diet.

Audrey Hepburn Anorexia

In fact, it is Dotti himself who provides the strongest evidence that Audrey Hepburn was not anorexia. In his memoir, he also says he has fond memories of her eating large amounts of pasta in her later years. He said that she always had a plate of spaghetti al pomodoro whenever she arrived home from a trip. This hearty traditional Italian dish is full of heavy carbs and fresh tomatoes. It is lighter than many other Italian dishes, but is still not likely to be eaten by someone overly concerned about their weight.

Unlike many older women, Audrey Hepburn did not put on weight as she aged, and kept her thin and trim figure throughout her entire life. Instead is is highly likely that if her slender figure was not natural, it was due to the malnurishment she experienced during the war when she was a young teenager, and that her career as a dancer contributed to her lithe, boyish figure. Audrey Hepburn went through puberty during this devastating and important period in the World’s history, and the hardships she experienced during this time likely had an effect on her body type for the rest of her life.

Audrey Hepburn Anorexia ?
Dance Ballet – Audrey Hepburn Anorexia ?

The truth is that we will never truly know whether Audrey Hepburn’s slim figure is due to an eating disorder, childhood malnurishment, or her natural adult body type and shape. What we do know is that Audrey Hepburn was a beautiful woman and an incredible actress with a remarkable sense of style who persevered despite all the hardships she endured.

Then there was her mother’s tendency to be overweight. As controlling as the Baroness was in most areas of her life trying to hide twenty-five excess pound. She blamed her size for a host of problems, including her husband’s roving eye.

Reasons Why I’m sure Audrey Hepburn didn’t have Anorexia

  • Her closest family members, two sons, two ex-husbands, and last recent partner who spent time with Audrey the most claim that she was not anorexic
  • her close friends and people who she hung out with on the sets of movies Claimed that she always ate pretty good portions and had a good appetite, especially for spaghetti.
  • She was a ballerina, in other words she was an athlete. This is not just some hobby of hers, she trained to become a prima ballerina as her career.
  • She was very energetic and didn’t complain about having chronic fatigue which a lot of anorexic people complain about having.

Audrey Hepburn Anorexia Quotes

  • After being through it in the war, she says, “I associate food with happy times, primarily because those times when I was unable to eat were so miserable. I guess in some convoluted way, I’m afraid if I eat when I’m sad, I’ll be feeding the sadness.”
  • Audrey noted how unhappy her mother was and, at least subconsciously, also attributed it to her weight.
  • She made a vow to herself to never exceed 103 pounds.

Memories During her Film and Broadway Career

When she secured her first big time break as the lead role in ‘Gigi’ the Broadway show, her producer, Gilbert Miller, suggested that she take a leisurely sail from London to New York and learn all of her lines on the way there. She traveled by boat for 18 days.

On the travel, she ended up gorging herself on chocolates (yes, we certainly know already that she has this thing for chocolates.) When she finally arrived from her long voyage, she was about 15 pounds heavier and her manager Gilbert certainly noticed!

Gilbert said to her, “Put a little meat on your bones eh? Don’t forget we hired you for your bones.” (She was barely 116 pounds).

Being by nature vulnerable and sensitive, she vowed to never put on weight again. She stated “And in my mind, I decided to also lose a few extra pounds as insurance.”

Audrey Hepburn’s eating disorder and anorexic tendencies were reignited during grueling rehearsals for Gigi.

If You’re Trying to Lose Weight…

Now, I need to bring up this next topic… A lot of women these days are not happy with how they look.  We all need to learn how to be happy with who we are as a person, in all shapes and sizes.  But I believe we all need to be healthy too or at least try to strive for that.  We may never get to our “ideal weight” but as long as we are making progress and are trying is what matters. However, Let’s not try to be “skinny”… let’s try to be HEALTHY.

I have close friends and a sister who were overweight, even myself sometimes.  If you are overweight, THERE ARE healthy ways to lose the weight, even if you’ve tried plenty of times.  Please don’t hurt yourself or your body by bulemia or starving yourself.

Here are things for you to try out:

  • Green Vibrance – This is the best green drink to get. Not only is it chalk full of vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to lose weight and detoxify, but it also has probiotics.  Read up on the effects probiotics have on your weight and mood, it’s really fascinating.
  • CHANGE your diet – Start eating WHOLE foods, minimize carbs and sugar. Stop eating junk food that YOU think is healthy! It probably isn’t, go research it!
  • EXERCISE Smart – Forget running and jogging – Do more High Intensity Interval Training and Lifting Weights.  Jogging has very little benefits to losing weight.
  • Eat consistently – Don’t Binge eat, and don’t go for days without eating. Get on a schedule that your body can adapt to instead of trying to guess what you’re doing.
  • Intermittent Fasting – There are some really promising studies that have come out that say that intermittent fasting (fasting short periods like a meal) is great for your body, paired with exercise.
  • Garcinia Cambogia – Haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard good things about it.
  • Green Coffee Bean Plus – Controls  hunger & Increases metabolism
  • Sheer Thermo – Natural way to accelerate burning fat and metabolism
  • Cellulite Brush – Doesn’t solve it 100% but it helps out.
  • Hot Cream for Cellulite – Gid rid of that nasty cellulite.  This doesn’t get rid of everything, but it helps the process

I really recommend this program to lose weight safely and naturally – you owe yourself to at least check it out and see what you think.  It’s a little sales pitchy at times, but this program has a wealth of information that you haven’t heard yet, has a money back guarantee, and best of all it works.

Check it Out

So you want perfect Audrey Hepburn eyebrows!? Well, you’re in the right place.  I am going to show you the different types of Audrey Hepburn eyebrows there were during Audrey’s career and then I’m going to explain the eyebrow technique & method behind each one.

Now it’s important to note that Audrey Hepburn went through about 3 to 4 different looks with her eyebrows. These different eyebrows which we will compare are from different movies such as Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Funny Face, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I Highly Recommend:

See my Audrey Hepburn Makeup Tutorial  which explains all the eye makeup, eyebrows, and foundation techniques to perfectly achieve your Audrey Hepburn Inspired look.

Sabrina Eyebrows

We will start off with her most famous eyebrow look, which starts with a extremely bold brow that she showcases in the movie Sabrina (her second movie).

The 1950’s was an era that heavily showcased bold eyebrows. Audrey Hepburn at the time followed this trend, however, she further made this trend more popular among everybody, and became a very popular look.

When people refer to Audrey Hepburn eyebrows, it is the Sabrina eyebrows they are usually referring to.  If you have big eyes and dark hair, you can pull this look off.

Audrey Hepburn Eyebrows - Sabrina

Why Do Her Eyebrows Look SOOO Good on her?

These very bold eyebrows look great on Audrey because her face is very small and her eyes are very large. Audrey Hepburn’s eyebrows perfectly frame and compliment her eyes. If she had smaller eyes, or a larger head, then this look would be very difficult to pull off.

There’s also another element playing in this – it deals with the concept of contrasting.  The dark bold eyebrow is typically associated with testosterone and men. Audrey has very feminine features, petite face, large eyes, small long neck that signal elegance, beauty, and gentleness and it’s paired / contrasted with a a bold eyebrow that perfectly frames in her large eyes.

Now, what’s happening subconsciously that make some guys attracted to this look is that they see all the qualities of an elegant, cute, petite woman with eyebrows that suggests that this woman has more testosterone in her which signals that this woman has an increase sexual libido which increases the chance of mating and thus increasing chances of making babies which is the main point to sex (if that wasn’t the point, there wouldn’t be a human race) and also the bonding of partners with the drug oxytocin the body makes during sex.

Now in the future, sadly there probably won’t be any sex. Everyone will have their libido castigated from birth and there will be no urge to stick things on places where you once stuck them before, you’ll be sterile – like a monsanto seed.  You look up and there is a floating triangle in the sky who you call mother and it gives birth to us and future generations inside of it’s biomechanical womb. Anyways… lol

Obviously, I’m not saying that women should just stop shaving and build giant muscles to show that they have more testosterone signals.  That’s it on a very primitive and primal level why certain things are attractive to certain people.  Anyway sorry I’ve gotten off topic! Back to Audrey Hepburn eyebrows!

Keys that create this Eyebrow:

Below is a great example of the blockiness of Audrey Hepburn’s eyebrow.  The right side picture shows how to pencil in the outline of the eyebrow.

  1. Bold – Extremely Bold and Dark.  This gives contrast to the face and frames the eyes.
  2. Blocky – Remember, that Audrey filled in her eyebrows to create a somewhat blocky, bold look.
  3. Angled – Notice the angle and the down point on the trailing end of the eyebrow.
  4. Have Big Eyes – Even if you don’t have big eyes, you can make them look bigger by using longer lashes and eyeshadow.
  5. Have Dark Hair – You could pair this with dark eyebrows and lighter hair but it typically looks best on dark hair.
  6. For your Convenience – Try and use an Audrey Hepburn eyebrow stencil: http://www.eyebrowz.com/audrey.htm

Here’s a Good Example of GREAT Eyebrow Makeup Technique

Roman Holiday Eyebrows

Roman Holiday was Audrey Hepburn’s first movie that she starred in as the lead role.

From looking at her past photos, I believe that these eyebrows are her original eyebrows. Her past photos show the same size, shape, and darkness.

Audrey Hepburn Eyebrows

Wait, Why Do These Eyebrows Look So Cute on her?

These eyebrows still have a slight boldness to them that compliment her eyes.  More importantly, this look works because Audrey’s face shape is very square and angular so having a round eyebrow really balances out her face.

Keys that create this Eyebrow:

  1. Different Shape – If you notice, the shape of these Audrey Hepburn eyebrows is totally different.  It’s virtually two arches, top and bottom of the eyebrow edges –  a simple enough difference. However, what i find most INTERESTING, is that the line that connects the two arches is a horizontal line.  Usually most eyebrows are connect with a vertical line or a slanted line.  I can’t remember ever seeing a horizontal line as the edge connecting the top and bottom edges of the eyebrow.
  2. Bold Eyebrow – These Roman Holiday Audrey Hepburn eyebrows are still filled in to create a bold look, HOWEVER, they are not as bold as her Sabrina eyebrows – they are more tailored. Focus on filling in with a lighter shade.  Don’t get too thin at the end of your eyebrows, there’s still some thickness at the point. Don’t make it a pencil point.
  3. Smooth, Graceful Curve- No Angled Point – Notice that the top does not have a point on it, and it is one graceful Curve.  Focus on creating an elegant arch for the eyebrow that doesn’t
  4. Use an eyebrow stencil: I don’t have a stencil made up for this but you could definately make one yourself by looking at her pictures, using thick card stock, and trial and error.  If you guys want a template of this, let me know in the comments below and I’ll see what I can do.

Funny Face Eyebrows

Not everybody knows the movie, Funny Face, which is a shame because it’s probably within my top three favorite movies of Audrey Hepburn’s.

Audrey Hepburn Eyebrows

How to Recreate this Funny Face Eyebrow Look:

There’s something interesting to note about her eyebrow look in this movie. There’s almost no bend or arch in the eyebrow!

  1. Recreate the eyebrow end to be more horizontal – The key to this look is the tail end of the eyebrow. Notice how the end of her eyebrow in the picture above that it almost goes straight across.  It has a very slight bend. Actually, in her play “Ondine” ( a year earlier) Audrey wears her eyebrows straight across.  It looks very strange I think, but somehow she pulls off the look.  She must have been going for an avant garde look with her weird hair style and eyebrows.
  2. Reshape – You might have to reshape the end of your eyebrow by plucking, or using concealer.
  3. Fill in with light shade – Pencil and fill in the eyebrow with a light shade.  This will be lighter than the Roman Holiday and Sabrina Eyebrows.
  4. Avoid penciled look – Avoid a penciled in look by not drawing a deep bold outline, try to use smudging to blur the edge.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Audrey Hepburn Eyebrows

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is Audrey Hepburn’s most famous film that is idolized by so many girls all over the world. With this said, her eyebrows don’t really play a significant role in the film. The movie was made in the early 60’s and the style of eyebrow back then had changed from bold to very light.  So as you can see in this movie and in the picture below, they are very light.

How to Recreate this Breakfast at Tiffany’s Eyebrow Look:

They key to this look, is natural, sparse, and light eyebrows.  This match is best paired with other light things, like Audrey’s pink lipstick and makeup.

  1. Light – These eyebrows may have been dyed a different color.  I would not use a filler since that usually darkens the eyebrows (even if it’s a lighter color).
  2. Natural – You can really tell that her eyebrows have a more natural look because you can see the sporadic hairs at the edge of the eyebrow.  There is not a distinct line from an outline pencil.
  3. Matches Hair Color – You can notice that her eyebrows coordinates and matches her hair color
  4. Reshape – Look at the image above and other Holly Golightly images to get the idea of how the shape of her eyebrow is.

Celebrities who have Inspired Audrey Hepburn Eyebrows

Lily Collins

Lily Collins wears big, bold, beautiful eyebrows and absolutely rocks the hell out of them.  Out of all the celebrities, she wears the “bold brow look” the best, right next to Audrey.  She has said in past interviews that Audrey has definitely inspired her style.  Lily Collins, oh how we adore you.

Audrey Hepburn Breakfast at Tiffany's Movie ScenesIt takes a lot of hard work. But it paid off, and I’m happy if you’re happy! :).  I have tried to make each video that I edit something special by adding a slow-motion scene at the end. I paired the slow-motion with some of my favorite piano music, mostly from Max Richter.  I think that it pairs extremely well together. It took a while to learn, and honestly it was pretty tough, because I had to learn a new program, Adobe After Effects.

On Amazon Streaming:  Funny Face Movie – Watch now  or see her full list of films.

For the MP3s to the songs: see my post here

My favorites are:

  1. “How long has this been going on?” #2
  2.  Audrey Hepburn “Funny Face” #3
  3. “Bohemian Dance/ Basal Metabolism” – Audrey’s Crazy Dance #5

Enjoy the videos below! 🙂

BTW, I converted these all in high quality 1080 HD for you too!

“Think Pink!” – Funny Face Video

Now what girl doesn’t like the color pink? Can’t think of any.  Even goth girls love their pink. I really think it’s an innate color to the female species. Sorry boys.

“How Long Has This Been Going On”

I don’t really care if Fred Astaire is so much older than her!  This scene is just way too cute!  And I’m sure any girl (my self included) would die to have this happen to her. One of my top three moments in the movie!

“Funny Face”

Now, why don’t they have dancing like this anymore?  No, no, this is not some red light district here.  We’re here for clean fun.  This inspires me to learn how to dance… now if only I can find someone else who would want to dance too…

“Bonjour Paris”

“Basal Metabolism” – Audrey Hepburn’s Crazy Dance

PERFECT.  .   .  I believe this was the moment that I fell in love with Audrey Hepburn.  I cannot describe how much joy this brings me whenever I watch this! Whenever I have a bad day, I can easily turn this on and it cheers me right up.  I love Audrey’s attitude in the beginning and I imagine it being my attitude when I have a bad day when I “CERTAINLY NEED A RELEASE!!”.

“Let’s Kiss and Make Up”

“He Loves and She Loves”

“On How to Be Lovely”

In this 8 of 10 Audrey Hepburn Funny Face videos, Audrey Hepburn and Kay Thompson sing “On how to be lovely”.  Sorry, Kay, Audrey outshines you every time. Why are you teaching her to be lovely? Please sit down.

“Clap Yo’ Hands”

“S’wonderful”

I didn’t think he was going to make it in time! It is a really s’wonderful song.
